Trauma-Informed Work with Perpetrators
I offer trauma-informed therapeutic support to individuals who have engaged in harmful, abusive or violent behaviours, recognising that people’s histories, experiences and emotional difficulties can influence how they respond to themselves, others and challenging situations.
Understanding these experiences does not excuse harmful behaviour; rather, it can provide an opportunity to develop greater awareness, responsibility and capacity for change. My integrative approach creates a respectful, compassionate and non-judgemental therapeutic space where individuals can begin to explore the experiences, beliefs, emotions and patterns that may contribute to harmful behaviour.
This may include exploring trauma, attachment experiences, shame, anger, emotional regulation, relationships, coping strategies and difficulties with managing distress. I focus on supporting individuals to recognise the impact of their behaviour, develop accountability and build healthier ways of responding to emotional and relational challenges.
Through collaborative, solution-focused interventions, clients can develop greater selfawareness, emotional regulation, communication skills and alternative coping strategies. The therapeutic intervention that I provide aims to support sustainable behavioural change, healthier relationships and a reduced risk of further harm. By addressing both the individual’s present circumstances and the underlying factors contributing to their behaviour, therapy can support rehabilitation while keeping the safety and well-being of partners, families, victims and the wider community at the centre of the work. My practice recognises the complexity of change and supports individuals to move towards safer, healthier and more responsible ways of relating to themselves and others.
